I offer full post production services. From raw file development to advanced retouching and everything in between. Having worked as an interior and architectural photographer I fully understand the workflow and level of perfection that needs to go into each image.
Malicious attention to detail combine with an extensive technical knowledge of post-production software allow me to craft imagery to meet the highest of standards. I run every image through my battle tested workflow, certain elements of which I adapt to suit the desired look and feel.
Processing RAW files in Lightroom / Camera Raw / Capture One. Preparing the files for exposure blending by bringing out colour and detail.
Blending multiple ambient exposures together using selections and masks i.e. the pen tool, colour and luminosity selections etc. A natural and more precise alternative to HDR.
Compositing multiple ambient and flash exposures together to create a clean and natural image. Flash can be used to fill in shadows, create specific directional light, retain clean window views, or even just remove ambient artefacts such as glare, colour cast and reflections. Ambient frames are always used for light direction to keep a natural look.
I split my retouching workflows into three section; basic, advanced and enhancements.
Basic includes any general image tidy up such as removing sensor dust, wires, outlets and generally removing any unwanted minor distractions.
Advanced includes any larger items such as telegraph poles, power cables, lamp posts, traffic cones, cars, people etc.
Enhancements include tasks such as sky and grass replacements, adding fire to fire places, TV screen replacements, fixing dirty roads and curbs, surface clean up such as creased bed sheets etc.
After correcting the white balance there can still be colour cast, often yellows and blues from natural light, but sometimes from light reflecting on to walls from other colour surfaces.
I use a number of different methods for correcting colour. It depends on the photographers style and the subject they are shooting. For instance my colour workflow for residential interior design is different to commercial architecture.
Ensuring all vertical lines are perfectly straight in 2 point perspective images and both vertical & horizontal in 1 point perspective.
Applying finishing touches to align with the photographers style and requirements, such as; contrast, clarity, sharpening etc.
Any file transfer website is ok, Dropbox, We Transfer, Hightail etc.
For full post production work I prefer to receive a preselection of your native raw files in a ZIP file i.e .CR2, .NEF, .ARW etc.
Native raw files have the most data and give maximum flexibility in post. I prefer not to work with .DNG, .TIFF, or JPG files for that reason.
For just retouching work flattened TIFF files are preferred, but I can work on full resolution JPGs if needed.
Yes, more than likely.
I can normally get enough information regarding your processing style from reviewing your portfolio, so please include a link when you get in touch. I may ask a few questions at the start, but once we’ve completed one or two projects together I can work pretty autonomously.
If you have a specific style you like and are trying to replicate, I can probably match it, or at least get very close. I can reverse engineer most images I look at to figure how they have been processed.
However if you are trying to replicate another style, the results can be very dependant on the input files I receive.
Turn around times can vary from 1 day to 2 weeks. Most standard sized projects are delivered within 3 - 5 working days. However, I may need a little longer if it's a big project or I have a very busy schedule.
When possible I ask for a bit of notice so I can pencil a job in to my schedule. It's no problem if anything changes as it's easier to remove a job from my schedule last minute than it is to add one. However, I can accommodate last minute rush jobs on occasion, but not always. Just let me know the deadline when you get in touch and I'll let you know if I can deliver in the timeframe.
Both.
I have an hourly rate I work with. But after we have worked on a few projects together I am happy to agree a per image fee so you can predict costs better.
I find the best way to work is agree a fixed fee for processing and basic retouching for instance. Then if there are any special requests for advanced retouching or enhancements we can address those on a project by project basis.
Also on occasion, you may photograph a project that requires a lot more complex processing than normal. In these cases I would ask that you be open to discussing the potential of increasing the per image fee to accommodate the additional work. These projects are normally be few and far between though.
